The Roads Minister was initially responsible for the project, but now the Transport Minister, who represents the people of Illawarra is responsible.

However, with the State Budget looming, the Premier and the Treasurer have the ability to make the right decisions and save the waste being spent, particularly now that billion dollar budget cuts to essential services are expected. Now is the time for them to act on sensible governance, and now it the time to remind them where savings can be made.

There are a number of ways we can lobby for a more sensible, environmentally sensitive bridge than the RTA’s proposal - which will take twice as long to build and cost $65m, or one third, more than this better bridge alternative.

This is approximately equal to the cost of the extension of the light rail line through Leichhardt, Haberfield, Summer Hill to Dulwich Hill, equal to the savings made with the better bridge alternative. Both completed before the RTA completes is new unnecessary bridge, and the next election.
